In remodeling things are not perfect or true, like in new construction. This comes in handy for all those discrepancies in the wood that need just a bit taken off, and also for some of the rough cut lumber that is a bit too rough that you want to smooth out a bit.

I used this planer to level beams and pressure-treated lumber on a balcony rebuild and is also very handy for trim work and small jobs where you need to make adjustments for imperfect walls or alignments.

I love the unit--it's smooth, powerful, easy to handle, solid construction, great sole plate. Chute for chip exit occasionally clogs, unless you hook it up to a good vacuum--then no problem. When I used the bag that came with it, it clogged with the bag 1/2 full. Not enough of a drawback to be of concern. I used it to trim down a split rail fence for the yard. I highly recommend the tool even though it doesn't have a clicker adjustment to the depth of cut, like the Makita. Great tool for the price--new or reconditioned. (I bought the new).
