Great little saw! Very loud though.
This is a great little portable saw. It's very portable and packs down small. It's got more than enough power to rip hardwood and long sheets. The only drawback is how loud it is.

Strong Light Saw
I have owned and used this saw extensively since May 2014. I am a finish carpenter that got tired lugging around the Bosch 4100 series table saw on a Rousseau stand. That is how I came to own the Bosch GTS1031 10-Inch Portable Jobsite Table Saw. I had used the yellow brand onsite and appreciated their micro adjusting knob on the fence (something you should copy Bosch). Just had so much luck with the 4100 that I went with the Bosch. The pros to the saw; came out of the box with the blade perfectly lined up at zero and 45 degrees, tool storage very ergonomically set up, light weight and well balanced for carrying, set up with stand easy, (option well worth the money) sturdy and easy to carry both, fence square with the blade, decent cuts and doesn't take up to much room in the truck. The cons; short power cord usually add a 25' extension cord to my saws but no room on the storage hooks to do this, no soft start motor so harsh start up (more on this further in review), and flimsy insert (didn't know they could make metal that thin) and warps easily.
The saw has handled everything I have thrown at it. Cutting against the grain and with the grain at maximum height. I even had to use it to free hand cut Fry Reglet aluminum base that I had to scribe to a finish floor with no problem. Usually I take off the riving knife on table saws but not this one because it comes in handy. And with adjust ability of the riving knife there is no need to remove it. You can use it in a couple of positions or lower it for free handing cuts.
Now to the need of a soft start motor. I found out the other day when the house GFI plugs had been replaced with the permanent breakers and outlets that my saw started tripping the breaker. It was on a 20 amp breaker for GFI outlets that at start up it would trip it. I eliminated the 25' extension cord and plugged it directly into the outlet and it still tripped the breaker. Figuring the switch or motor had short in it and still under warranty I took it to a Bosch service center only to find out there was nothing wrong with the saw. It seems the saw demands a great deal of amps at start up that with the new breakers/outlets being used in new homes (perhaps it was a faulty breaker/outlet) is a common problem. Speaking with the service rep he said it took them awhile to figure out this problem. In fact they have posted a service memo to this problem in their shop. This is not just a problem with Bosch but with any brand of saw without a soft start. The rep went on and said to definitely not plug it into an AFCI outlet. Having my bosses Bosch GTS1031 10-Inch Portable Jobsite Table Saw I went to the same outlet and incurred the same problem. I then took it to the old GFI outlet that had not been changed yet and the saw worked fine. Don't know if it was the breaker the outlet or both. The breaker for the new outlet was the same breaker as what was being used for the new outlet. The electrician on the job didn't really have an answer. The service rep did say that companies should put soft start motors on all their saws to eliminate the problem. So in conclusion tradesmen/DIY'ers be aware of this problem. Would I recommend this saw? Sure, but along with the problem with the non soft start motor. Oh yeah there was a yellow brand model like the Bosch that did the same thing.

Top Performer in a Small Package
Nearly everything about this saw is absolutely awesome. The 5,000 RPM motor cuts everything like butter. The adjustments on the saw are smooth and accurate. Oh, and it is easy to carry and move around.
Problem 1: the supplied miter gauge is small, cheap, and has way to much play in the miter slot, so if you're looking for accuracy, spend the money on a proper miter gauge. The supplied on is convenient though.
Problem 2: Small dado capacity.
Problem 3: This throat plate style disallows you to make a zero clearance plate without a huge investment of time and money. Most people can do without them, but I find it annoying.
Problem 4: The are no extensions for this saw to increase its capacity. I've rigged a detachable left wing on the saw to support longer material while using my INCRA miter gauge. As far as rip width, some ingenuity and spare parts from Bosch should get you some length when needed, but I have yet to look for the parts although I know what needs to be done.
Problem 5: The cord does not stay in place on the saw when put away properly, posing a safety problem aside from being annoying while carrying the saw around. I will be cutting the cord off and placing a non-corded plug strip in its place to make life easier.

Despite its design and functionality flaws, its a wonderful saw which I will have for years to come. I hope Bosch starts giving products more thorough thought before putting them on the market.

Shockingly Poor
I've been a professional cabinetmaker for thirty years and have been using Bosch products for the last twenty. I've always been a huge fan, and in almost every case I would choose a Bosch tool before I would use anything else. Ten or so years ago I purchased the Bosch 4000 table saw and it has been a joy the entire time I have owned it. I didn't talk about my saw, I gushed about it. Recently the speed control failed rendering it unusable. The timing was right, and since I do mostly jobsite work now I decided to downsize to a compact version. The new GTS1031 had just hit the market and I had been salivating over it since the first time I laid eyes on it, so the first time I had enough extra money in a job I bought it. Beautiful packaging, great looking design, easy to carry.....and then I turned it on. The hideous jolt from the direct drive (with no soft start like my old saw) literally startled me to the point that I jumped, which anyone who knows me will tell you that takes some doing. The loud scream of the blade sounded like my old Bosch saw when the speed control went out. It literally sounds as if the saw is going to come apart at the seams. I purchased a new, nicer blade, thinking that the cheap factory blade might be the culprit, but this just made things worse. With the new Freud Diablo blade attached you could actually see a solid 1/4" side to side deflection of the blade upon initial startup. There were a few other small issues that I noticed (nothing that would have prevented the enjoyable use of the tool that I expected), but Bosch's unfathomable decision to not include a soft start feature on this saw is an absolute deal breaker. I can't even imagine the Bosch R and D engineers standing around this saw and patting each other on the back, unless the power was out that day so they couldn't hear it run. As a professional who finds great joy and satisfaction in the use of a fine tool I'm literally offended by this thing. I used the tool for a week to make sure I wasn't being unreasonable, but when other workers on the jobsite began making comments that confirmed my dissatisfaction I decided to take it back. I think, for now, I'm going to repair my older Bosch saw, get back to the good old days, and try to forget this ever happened.

Bosch GTS1031 portable table saw
Great machine w/ only fall back that we have encountered, which is the max. width is 1/2" wide dado instead of 13/16" width like on most table saws.

I would give this saw a 4 star rating

An Absolutely Incredible Table Saw
For years I have used the $99 table saws from Delta and Craftsmen with a fair amount of success. But my business, as a home remodeler has put demands on this type of tool for too long. I did an extensive amount of research for the "Best in Class" table saw and all results pointed to Bosch. The funny thing is that I was always looking at the larger jobsite saw and only glanced at this one.

For the money and size this saw in truly the "Best in Class" jobsite table saw. It is designed much better than Delta, DeWalt and Ridgid. All the accessories are strategically stored onto the saw for extreme convenience.

There are many things that I like about this saw - It's easy to carry. The blade glides on a set of rails when raising or lowered. The enclosed dust collection is perfect for cutting PVC or MDF material. And best of all, the rip fence is absolutely accurate.

I would recommend this saw for any professional or experience DIYer.

Disappointed
This was a reconditioned Bosch table saw, the lighter unit. Intended to rip some 4/4 hardwood planks to 1/8" of finish dimensions. On first inspection, it look like new, except for some light scratches in the table top. However, the rear motor pivot, which rides in a half-moon shaped nylon insert, had way too much play in it. I could easily move it a least an 1/8" of an inch without a lot of effort. It needs some type of locking mechanism. The front of motor mount locks down with a lever that locks the blade angle adjustment wheel.

I decided to send it back. CPO emailed me a return shipper. At this point I'm waiting for my refund. I really can't speak to any other aspect of the saw itself. INot sure what I will replace it with. The big bother to this unit has the same type of pivot system, so I don't see it as the replacement either.

Great Saw
I bought this saw recently. I needed a saw that would quickly pack up and not take much room in my Garage. I do not a workshop and use the garage and driveway to do my projects. This saw has filled this requirement perfectly. I have done separate projects now and the saw has done all I could expect. I added a dado blade and the saw had the power to easily make the cuts using that blade. I did purchase an 8 inch dado blade to assure that the cuts would not bog down.
Great saw and easy to use.

I need to be able to cut plywood into 24" pieces. Is there an adaption to make This saw cut that width or what do you which is similar and will cut 24" widths?
Jeff on Dec 18, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I've not seen anything like that. But most of woodworking is about creating a jig to either modify your tool or hold the work piece safely so you can get the outcome you want. You have to find a way to do it safely and you shouldn't proceed if you're not sure about safety. You know, anyone can build anything with an unlimited tool budget. In your case you may be able to build a side extension with a homemade fence. Assuming you have a through cut, the anti-kickback spawl and the riving knife should provide a level of comfort against kickback. If you're not comfortable with this, clamp a 2x4 to the plywood and use a skillsaw. The trick is to do it with the available tools and to not get hurt! Good luck!

New Vs. Reconditioned

What's the difference between New and Factory-Reconditioned?

Factory-Reconditioned products have been returned to the manufacturer and are restored to like-new operating condition; they go through a rigorous testing and inspection process. Plus, they offer a significant savings vs. new.
  • Reconditioned products may have minor cosmetic blemishes or scratches that do not affect item performance.
  • Reconditioned products may not come with all of the consumables the new version comes with (bits, sanding pads/papers, cases, etc.).
  • Both come with a manufacturer warranty and are covered by our Money Back Guarantee; New is 30 days, Reconditioned is 60 days.
